Conclave 2014 a Huge Success!
Conclave 2014 was an outstanding event! With epic quest games and campfires, spectacular trainings and competitions, and great food and hospitality from the service lodge, this Conclave was one to remember!
Upon arriving at Camp McKee, Arrowmen were greeted at registration, where they were given a free Ale-8-One (the area's signature soft drink). They then proceeded to unpack their gear and set up camp for the weekend. After that, they had the opportunity to participate in several welcome activities, such as shotgun shooting and zip lining, before Conclave kicked off with a great opening campfire highlighting the theme, "Conclave Game Day." Following a great cracker barrel, Arrowmen were ready to hit the sack before the exciting events of Saturday.
Saturday morning dawned bright and clear. A dedicated handful of Arrowmen were up early for a meaningful Vigil Rededication ceremony - complete with coffee! After breakfast, most Arrowmen were able to participate in training sessions, learning from the best instructors across the section. Others took advantage of the opportunity to hone their skills at ceremony evaluations, chainsaw training, first aid training, and more!
Saturday afternoon began with the Brotherhood Run, lodge history display judging, AIA competitions, and special events. At 2:00, an onslaught of youth Arrowmen arrived at the Quest Field, full of spirit and eager to bring home the honors for their lodge. Cheers reechoed through the air as each lodge supported its team in events such as doughnut pass, thread the needle, and football playoffs (complete with commentary from 2013 National Chief Matt Brown). When Quest was over, Arrowmen scattered to eat supper, but then reassembled for the section officer candidate forum and the campfire. Football teams from Ittawamba and Wa-Hi-Nasa faced off in the championship game - with a full panel of commentators, including special guest 2014 National Vice Chief Taylor Bobrow, 2013 National Chief Matt Brown, script writer Damon Miller, and Service Lodge Conclave Vice Chairman Sam Lyons. It was a good game with some outstanding plays, and Wa-Hi-Nasa ultimately won. Many awards were handed out - congratulations to everyone!! After such an exciting day, Arrowmen enjoyed cracker barrel before heading off to their campsites.
After breakfast on Sunday morning, a non-denominational service was held, and the section business meeting followed immediately. Congratulations to our 2014-2015 section officers: Nick Oliver (Chief), Hunter Jones (Vice Chief), and Nathan Vick (Secretary)! With this business concluded, Arrowmen got into their vehicles and headed home.
One new feature we added this time was a "Conclave App," which had the information in the printed brochure plus live photos and the ability to track one's location around camp. It worked well, and we're looking forward to using it next year!
Conclave 2014 was truly one for the ages. The weather was great, the program was fantastic, the service lodge was welcoming, and Arrowmen had an outstanding time! We're thankful for the success of this Conclave, but are already looking forward to the next one. See you on April 17-19, 2015, at Camp Buck Toms, for the 2015 Conclave!!
